For many interior designers, as soon as the hard work of creating a new space to fit their client’s needs and business objectives is finished and orders for furniture are placed, the critical task of fine-tuning the atmosphere for the designed area remains. Artwork selection is a key component to this task, and is often a difficult and subjective process. While some clients are looking to buy art as an investment, others may be looking for something affordable yet beautiful. All of them are looking for a unique expression that enhances and improves the level of comfort within their finished project; a new remedy for this formidable undertaking is on the horizon for New York designers.
Already wildly popular in Toronto for four years running, The Artist Project is a unique trade show and art exhibit that caters to interior designers, art consultants and gallery owners; it debuts in New York on Thursday, March 17, on Pier 92 (55th Street and the West Side Highway) and is presented in conjunction with the 10th Anniversary of the Architectural Digest Home Design Show at the adjacent Pier 94. Consisting of a juried selection of unrepresented local and international artists, it can be considered along the lines of an ICFF for the New York world of art and design.
Unlike other art fairs that only allow galleries to exhibit, The Artist Project provides individual artists with the opportunity to show their work in spaces that maintain gallery- and museum-like production values with state-of-the-art exhibition walls, professional lighting and generous public spaces. The four-day show will offer an eclectic program of Art Chats, seminars that feature art industry professionals discussing a variety of engaging and inspiring topics, as well as current issues in art and design. Artist Project docents will be available to take attendees on a fast and informative guided exploration of the exhibit hall where they will learn about the artists and their working process.
