It’s always a good sign for the industry when new manufacturers enter our marketplace. Late last month, Italian lighting manufacturer iGuzzini opened its very first showroom in the United States. Located at 60 Madison Avenue in New York, the 4,700 square-foot space is dedicated solely to showcase the interior and exterior lighting products of this manufacturer.
Known throughout Europe for their high-quality products, architects such as Renzo Piano, Norman Foster, Daniel Libeskind, Steven Holl and Zaha Hadid have used iGuzzini lighting in their projects. The company’s products illuminate some of the most prestigious settings in the world: the Beaubourg in Paris; the Luxor Temple in Egypt; the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, the Morgan Library and the New York Times Building in New York, to name just a few.
For more than fifty years, iGuzzini’s main objectives continue to be creating the most efficient uses of light possible and fostering a strong corporate culture of lighting research and design. The results are not only many high-performance luminaires conceived by major international architects and designers, but also an ability to combine these products into lighting systems suitable for the most diverse uses of space. Trading initially under the name of Harvey Guzzini, the company was among the leading standard bearers of the Made in Italy revolution – indeed of the culture embodied by Italian design. That kind of heritage brings a great deal of authenticity to the company and its products. The showroom opening event featured the appearance of Italian design legend Massimo Vignelli. Also on hand were George M. Beylerian, CEO of Material ConneXion (who shares the adjoining space), Adolfo Guzzini, President of iGuzzini and Francesco Talo, Consul General of Italy.
